St. John of Ruysbroeck was a 13th-century Flemish mystic and author. He shared the following about the Divine Light of the Self:
Here, the incomprehensible light manifests; and through it, we can get the vision of God… This Divine Light is offered through a simple mental image, where the divine clarity is God itself… in the void where the mind is lost from love. You see, this mysterious clarity in which everything we wish can be contemplated depending on the mental void is endless, so the one who contemplates falling in love with it doesn’t perceive and doesn’t sense in his deep being anything but an incomprehensible light. And, in the simple Nudity which wraps all things, he finds himself identified with this Light, and its grace he can see.
