Hridaya Romania – Kamala Center

mapa romania yoga

In the peaceful village of Sânpetru, near the Carpathian Mountains of the Transylvania Region, there is a place dedicated to Stillness, Self-Inquiry, and the awakening of the Heart.

Hridaya Romania (known locally as Kamala Center) has been sharing the Hridaya teachings since 2007. Surrounded by the beauty of the Dealul Lempeș (Lempes Hill) Nature Reserve, with its rare wildflowers and soaring birds, it’s a space that naturally supports contemplation and inner exploration.

We offer silent meditation retreats, Hridaya Hatha Yoga, teacher training courses, workshops, and daily yoga and meditation classes. You’re invited to rediscover the beauty of the Spiritual Heart and the quiet presence within. At Hridaya Romania, you’ll find a welcoming environment led by yoga teachers with more than 40 years of experience.

All are welcome to join us and experience the depth of yoga in a setting of simplicity, warmth, and openness.

Hridaya Romania Kamala Center

Kamala Center was founded in 1995 by Liviu Gheorghe and Simona Trandafir. Since its inception, our center has organized lectures and classes on traditional yoga, spirituality, natural therapies, and parapsychology; hosted Romania’s first yoga and astrology exhibition; opened the first herbal stores in Brașov; and offered guidance and support in these fields—all to promote and sustain the practice of yoga and spiritual growth.

That same year, we established Kamala Publishing House, publishing numerous valuable works on yoga (featuring the teachings of Ramakrishna, Anandamayi Ma, Ramana Maharshi, Nityananda, Buddha, and others), spirituality, natural therapies, and personal development.

In 2007, Kamala Center evolved into Hridaya Romania Kamala Center, co-founded by Liviu Gheorghe, Simona Trandafir, Sahajananda, Sebastian Teodor, and Veronica Godeanu. Since then, our core teachings have been Hridaya Yoga—the Yoga of the Spiritual Heart (Atman).

Also in 2007, Sahajananda held the first Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat at our center. We’ve offered these retreats twice yearly ever since, with additional retreats being led by Hridaya Romania Kamala Center teachers—making continuous meditation retreats a tradition since 2007.

In 2015, Hridaya Romania debuted our 200-hour Hridaya Teacher Training Course in Romanian. We continue to offer this course annually and, in 2023, added a 300-hour Hridaya Teacher Training Course.

In addition to other offerings, we currently share weekly Hridaya Hatha Yoga classes in Bucharest, Brașov, and Sânpetru.

Suggested Packing List

Hridaya Yoga Kamala Center welcomes visitors year-round, with each season offering its unique beauty. In our temperate climate, summer temperatures average 21 °C (70 °F) in August—ideal for enjoying the surrounding natural environment. Winter brings an average of -1 °C (30 °F) in December, and there are mountain resorts in the area for skiing and other winter sports.

If you come to our center a retreat or workshop, and you would also like to visit some of the inspiring places nearby, we recommend bringing the following:

  • Clothes for yoga and meditation. We recommend breathable clothing made from natural fibers whenever possible. Depending on your preferences, t-shirts, tank tops, yoga pants, leggings, sweatpants, and shorts are all good options. Consider wearing a long-sleeve shirt or sweatshirt until you warm up. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and able to move freely.
  • Yoga mat (although the school has mats available for use, it is more hygienic to bring your own)
  • Sarong or mat towel (if you use one of our mats, we ask that you cover it with your sarong or towel)
  • Meditation cushions (we have cushions available if you don’t have your own)
  • Warm slippers for inside during winter; flip flops in summer.
  • Clothing: Please be prepared with appropriate clothing for a region close to the mountains, rain gear included. In summer, you will want to bring lightweight clothing and a shawl or a sweater. Pack warm clothes, a hat, gloves, warm socks, insulated footwear, and a winter jacket for winter. It could be -15 ºC (5 ºF) during the winter (or even colder), so please be prepared.
  • Refillable water bottle and a thermos for tea
  • Toiletries/medications: Personal medicines and hygiene products (shampoo, tampons, etc)
  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • Electrical adapter, if needed (plugs and sockets are generally two-pronged, non-polar; you must bring adapters if you use appliances with polar two-pronged or three-pronged plugs)
  • Hiking or running shoes if you plan to do outdoor activities
  • Cash for our on-site shop
  • Travel alarm clock: If you’re joining a silent meditation retreat and don’t want to keep your phone in airplane mode, you may want to bring an alarm clock.
  • Sunglasses
  • Earplugs (for use when meditating)
