Hridaya Yoga Center Manager Job Description

PURPOSE:

The Center Manager supports our mission to share the teachings of the Spiritual Heart by ensuring the harmonious functioning of the Hridaya Yoga Center in Mazunte, Mexico. Though a paid position, the Center performs her/his job in the spirit of karma yoga, selfless service for the benefit of others.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Center Manager helps create a welcoming environment for our students by ensuring the efficient operation of our administrative systems. This includes the management of Hridaya’s Program, Student Service, Dining Room, Karma Yoga/Human Resources and Maintenance Departments. The Center Manager reports to the General Manager and leads general Center operations, managing a team of managers to achieve desired objectives. The Center Manager serves in a manner that is coherent with the Hridaya Yoga Attitudes and Community Vision.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Improve the operational systems, processes and policies in support of the Hridaya Community Vision; specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning
  • Manage and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental processes through improvements to each function, as well as current coordination and communication methods; ensuring that communication between departments is ongoing and utilized to maintain an environment of continuous improvement
  • Requesting feedback from managers, performing ongoing analysis of systems, and suggesting improvements to the General Manager as needed
  • Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence, which is continually inspired by the Hridaya Community Vision
  • Working with the General Manager to set operational priorities; creating efficient means to record priorities and track progress of projects; ensuring key performance indicators are in place and targets are met
  • Identifying any resource/skills gaps in the organization and undertaking a recruitment programme to support this; recruiting, training, and managing the Student Services Manager, Dining Room Manager, Karma Yoga Manager, Maintenance Manager, Program Manager, Center Manager Personal Assistant, as well as local staff, and other departmental staff as needed
  • Holding regular meetings with Dining Room, Student Services, Maintenance, Karma Yoga and Programs Managers to support effective internal communications and the successful functioning of each area; training and supporting managers to ensure that everyone is performing adequately in their role; supervising and coaching Center Manager Personal Assistant
  • Providing a leadership support function to teams and motivating and inspiring staff to achieve goals inspired by the Hridaya Community Vision
  • Sharing Center policies and procedures with the entire staff to support the harmonious overall functioning of the Center
  • Working with the General Manager and Bookkeeper to develop a Hridaya Yoga Mexico budget, tracking expenses following approved protocols; Managing departmental budgets and costs effectively in respect of the planning process.
  • Acting as a liaison to the General Manager and the Hridaya Association to inform them of operational matters
  • Writing and updating the Center Manager manual and other documents, as needed
  • Maintaining systems for the backing up and filing of all relevant Center Manager files

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meditation and yoga practitioner (required), Hridaya Yoga experience (highly desirable)
  • Commitment to Hridaya Yoga’s mission and vision
  • Ability to make a 1-year minimum commitment to the position
  • Hridaya teacher (highly desirable); proven work experience as an operations manager (required); relevant qualification in project and/or business management (highly desirable)
  • Familiarity with business principles and practices; adequate knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Proven organizational abilities with the skills to engage and inspire staff, manage and support efficient work teams, and create efficient systems for the smooth overall functioning of the organization
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills
  • Budget development and oversight experience; working knowledge of forecasting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (required), proficiency in Spanish (required); a thoughtful, inspiring communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • The ability to lead, follow, take initiative, and take direction and the wisdom to know when each is appropriate
  • A spirit of service, the ability to step up and perform whatever task is necessary for the good of the whole

WORK HOURS AND BENEFITS:

The Center Manager can expect to work full-time (6 days per week, approximately 7 hours per day) and will be open to work additional hours to support special events or when the need arises.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Stipend of $10,000 MXN per month
  • Three communal meals per day (6 days per week)
  • The accrual of 2 vacation days per month
  • Paid time off to participate in one 10-Day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat per 3 months of service
  • Paid time off to participate in two 3-day workshops
  • Free enrollment in the Hridaya Yoga Modules (attendance must be flexible and must be coordinated around the administrative workload)
  • After a minimum of 4 months of service, the Center Manager is eligible for a free 3-day stay in the Hridaya Yoga Dark Room (the time off will count against accrued vacation days)
  • Bonus: After the successful completion of the 12-month commitment, the participation in an additional 10-day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat will be offered as a bonus
