De esta manera, la mayor\u00eda de las escuelas de Yoga poscl\u00e1sico y <i>vedanta <\/i>aceptan la doctrina de los <i>pancha kosha<\/i> (&#8220;los cinco cuerpos&#8221;; en s\u00e1nscrito, <i>kosha <\/i>significa &#8220;vaina&#8221; o &#8220;envoltura&#8221;), que se introdujo por primera vez en la antigua <i>Taittiriya Upanishad<\/i> (2:7).<\/p>\n<p>Los nombres de todos los cuerpos contienen la palabra <i>maya<\/i>. En este contexto, <i>maya <\/i>significa &#8220;hecho por&#8221; o &#8220;compuesto de&#8221;. Esta composici\u00f3n apunta a la naturaleza ilusoria y contingente del cuerpo f\u00edsico, el cuerpo et\u00e9rico o cualquiera de los otros <i>koshas<\/i>. En la filosof\u00eda y\u00f3guica, &#8220;contingente&#8221; significa&#8221; no tener la causa en s\u00ed mismo, relativo&#8221;, ya que todas estas &#8220;envolturas&#8221; est\u00e1n presentes s\u00f3lo por el <i>atman<\/i>, el n\u00facleo real y la causa de nuestro ser.<\/p>\n<p>Cada uno de los <i>pancha kosha<\/i> puede verse como una obstrucci\u00f3n a la luz pura del Ser trascendental. Sin embargo, no es el propio <i>kosha <\/i>el que crea la separaci\u00f3n &#8220;aparente&#8221; de nuestro Ser Divino, sino nuestra identificaci\u00f3n con \u00e9l. Al identificarnos con estas diferentes capas de nuestro ser, olvidamos qui\u00e9nes somos en esencia. Todos los <i>koshas <\/i>son parte de la manifestaci\u00f3n del verdadero Ser.<\/p>\n<h3><b>En la <\/b><b><i>Taittiriya Upanishad<\/i><\/b><b> se hace referencia a los siguientes cuerpos (<\/b><b><i>koshas<\/i><\/b><b>):<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b>1. El <\/b><b><i>kosha annamaya: <\/i><\/b><b>\u201cla envoltura compuesta de comida\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Esta \u201cenvoltura\u201d es el cuerpo f\u00edsico. Constituye la menos sutil de las cinco capas que obstruyen la libertad del Ser Supremo. Conduce al <i>jiva <\/i>(el alma individual) a identificarse con el cuerpo f\u00edsico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><b>2. El <\/b><b><i>kosha pranamaya: <\/i><\/b><b>\u201cla envoltura compuesta de fuerza vital\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>El <i>kosha pranamaya<\/i>, la segunda de las cinco capas que obstruyen la libertad del Ser Supremo, conforma el cuerpo et\u00e9rico. Conduce al <i>jiva <\/i>a identificarse con el cuerpo et\u00e9rico.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><b>3. El <\/b><b><i>kosha manomaya:<\/i><\/b><b> \u201cla envoltura compuesta de la mente\u201d\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>El tercer cuerpo es conocido como el cuerpo astral y conduce al <i>jiva <\/i>a identificarse con el cuerpo astral.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><b>4. El <\/b><b><i>kosha vijnanamaya: <\/i><\/b><b>\u201cla envoltura compuesta de sabidur\u00eda\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>El<i> kosha vijnanamaya<\/i>, \u201cla envoltura compuesta de conocimiento intelectual y entendimiento\u201d es el cuarto cuerpo. Esta envoltura conduce al <i>jiva <\/i>a identificarse con la <i>buddhi <\/i>(el intelecto). Siempre que tomamos conciencia de nosotros mismos como seres racionales capaces de discernimiento y juicio intelectuales, estamos usando el <i>kosha vijnanamaya<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h3><b>5. El <\/b><b><i>kosha anandamaya: <\/i><\/b><b>\u201cla envoltura compuesta de dicha\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>El <i>kosha anandamaya <\/i>es el cuerpo causal. Constituye la quinta de las cinco capas que obstruyen la libertad del Ser Supremo. Conduce al <i>jiva <\/i>a identificarse con el cuerpo causal. En la <i>Taittiriya Upanishad<\/i>, el <i>kosha anandamaya<\/i> se equipara con la propia Realidad trascendental, aunque escuelas posteriores consideran que todav\u00eda conforma un fino velo alrededor del Ser.<\/p>\n<p>Es importante mencionar que el modelo de los cinco cuerpos no es aceptado en el Yoga cl\u00e1sico. Sin embargo, incluso all\u00ed, se postula la existencia de un cuerpo supraf\u00edsico compuesto de materia-energ\u00eda m\u00e1s sutil que el cuerpo material.
