Las contribuciones de Adi Shankaracharya (<i>adi<\/i> significa &#8220;el primero&#8221;) al pensamiento <i>advaita <\/i>y al hinduismo en general son cruciales. Propuso que si bien el Universo fenom\u00e9nico, nuestra conciencia y nuestro ser f\u00edsico ciertamente se experimentan, no son la Verdadera Realidad. Con esto, no quiso negar la existencia material, sino m\u00e1s bien la identificaci\u00f3n de nuestra Verdadera Naturaleza con estructuras ef\u00edmeras, como el cuerpo, la psique y la mente.<\/p>\n<h3><b>La Verdad Suprema es <\/b><b><i>Brahman<\/i><\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Shankaracharya consider\u00f3 que la Verdad Suprema es <i>Brahman<\/i>: la base divina que es m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del tiempo, el espacio y la causalidad. Si bien <i>Brahman <\/i>constituye la causa eficiente y material del Cosmos, el propio <i>Brahman <\/i>no se encuentra limitado por la proyecci\u00f3n de S\u00ed Mismo y trasciende todos los opuestos binarios o dualidades, especialmente los aspectos individualizados como la forma y el ser, ya que es incomprensible para la mente humana. Trascender la mente supone el camino para reconocer el <i>atman <\/i>(nuestra esencia suprema). Esta perenne afirmaci\u00f3n se le atribuye a Shankaracharya: &#8220;\u00danicamente <i>Brahman <\/i>es real, el mundo es apariencia, el Ser no es m\u00e1s que <i>Brahman.<\/i>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>La verdad suprema de acuerdo al <i>advaita <\/i>es la Realidad no dual de <i>Brahman<\/i>, en la que el <i>atman <\/i>y <i>Brahman <\/i>se encuentran absolutamente unidos. Fue Shankaracharya quien le dio su nombre al <i>advaita <\/i>e intent\u00f3 activamente difundir sus ideas. \u00c9l sistematiz\u00f3 sus concepciones del no dualismo y su pr\u00e1ctica en una secuencia de obras como el <i>Viveka Chudamani <\/i>(&#8220;La joya suprema del discernimiento&#8221;) y los <i>Brahma Bhashyas<\/i> (comentarios sobre el <i>Brahmasutra<\/i>).<\/p>\n<h3><b><i>Bhakti <\/i><\/b><b>no dual<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n es bien conocido por presentar un sistema de <i>bhakti <\/i>(devoci\u00f3n desprendida) con una filosof\u00eda no dual, y por componer varios <i>bhajans <\/i>(cantos devocionales) que pueden acercarnos a la realizaci\u00f3n.
